Laser-Peeling-Dermabrasion

Dermatological Surgery

Fractional Laser

The fractional CO2 laser is a recent technique based on a new way of applying impacts. Traditional CO2 lasers (known as resurfacing lasers) are quite old and have been known in dermatology for a long time. Although very effective in treating scars and facial wrinkles, resurfacing CO2 lasers involved relatively long social downtime associated with redness that could last for several months, making them quite unpopular. The fractional technique seeks to distribute the laser beam into multiple smaller beams, evenly spaced to leave healthy skin intervals from which healing can occur more quickly and thus with less social downtime.

When the laser beam comes into contact with the skin, it reacts with the water in the upper layers of the skin, primarily the epidermis. This reaction causes the vaporization of the superficial layers of the skin. A remodeling and collagen synthesis phenomenon is initiated, which continues in the months following the laser session.

Dermabrasion

This is a mechanical sanding of the skin performed under local anesthesia. The results are comparable to those of laser treatment, except for the eye area where this technique is not applicable. It achieves excellent results, particularly on fine lines around the lips or for treating acne scars.

Dermabrasion does not apply to all skin types, and your doctor will choose the most appropriate technique based on your particular case. The aftercare differs from that of fractional laser resurfacing. After the treatment, sun exposure is completely discouraged for several months.

Peels

In aesthetic medicine, peels are used to smooth out wrinkles and fine lines by removing the superficial layer of the skin and, consequently, the most damaged cells of the epidermis. They make the skin smoother and stimulate the synthesis of collagen and elastic fibers.

Peels can treat pigmented spots, fine lines, small acne scars, and skin laxity. Different peels are distinguished by their depth of action depending on the concentration of the products, the type of substances used, the duration of action, and the number of layers applied.

10 excerpt(s) from our FAQ on this topic…

What is laser resurfacing?

Laser resurfacing is an aesthetic treatment that uses a laser beam to exfoliate the superficial layers of the skin, stimulate collagen production, and improve skin texture. It is particularly effective for smoothing wrinkles, reducing pigmented spots, tightening pores, and treating acne scars.

What are the main indications for laser resurfacing?

This treatment is indicated for:
  • Wrinkles and fine lines (perioral, frontal, around the eyes)
  • Dull or uneven skin tone
  • Sun or pigmented spots
  • Acne or post-traumatic scars
  • Light to moderate skin laxity

Is it painful?

The treatment may cause a sensation of warmth or tingling, but it is generally well tolerated. A numbing cream is applied beforehand to improve comfort. For deeper lasers, local anesthesia or sedation may be considered.

What are the aftercare instructions following a session?

After fractional or ablative laser treatment, the skin may be red, slightly swollen, and peeling for a few days. It is important to hydrate, strictly avoid the sun, and follow prescribed care to promote good healing.

How many sessions are needed?

It depends on the type of laser used and the indication. One session may be sufficient for a visible effect, but a protocol of 2 to 3 sessions spaced one month apart is often recommended for optimal results.

How long do the results last?

Results can last several months, even years, especially if maintained by a good lifestyle, strict sun protection, and possibly maintenance sessions.

Can all skin types benefit from laser resurfacing?

Light skin is most suitable because the risks of post-inflammatory pigmentation are lower. Medium or dark skin should undergo a personalized evaluation to choose an appropriate protocol, often using non-ablative lasers.

Can the laser be combined with other aesthetic treatments?

Yes, the laser can be combined with Botox or hyaluronic acid injections, microneedling, or peels for overall facial rejuvenation.

Is laser resurfacing dangerous?

In experienced hands, the treatment is safe. Risks (burns, hyperpigmentation, infections) are rare and related to poor protocol or neglected postoperative care.

When do we see results?

The first results are visible as soon as healing occurs, but improvement continues over several weeks as collagen regenerates.
